Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have to be a Marine to join?

A:
Not exactly.  To be a Regular member, you must be either a Marine or an FMF Navy Corpsman.  To be an Associate member, you can be virtually anyone who supports Marines and the Marine Corps League.  Honorary members are elected by the Regular membership for notable reasons such as Marines currently deployed and in harms way.

Q: Are all members from Lake or Porter counties?

A:
No.  Although most of our membership hails from Lake and Porter Counties, membership to our detachment even comes from out of state.

Q: Are all of Howlin Mad's charitable activities limited to the Hobart area?

A:
No.  Howlin Mad's charitable efforts take place throughout Northwest Indiana and to troops overseas.

Q: Are my monitary contributions to Howlin Mad tax deductible?

A:
Yes!  Howlin Mad Detachment #93, Marine Corps League is a not-for-profit organization within the provisions of IRS Code 501(c)3, with a special group exemption letter which allows for contributions to be tax deductible by the donor.

Q: How much are annual membership dues?

A:
For Regular and Associate memberships the annual dues are $30.00.  Lifetime memberships are available for varying amounts based on member's age.  Honorary members pay no annual dues.
