Rifle Detail composed of: John Larson, Ernie Wheeler,
Ron Wilson, Terry Connell, Joe Rossi, shown with the M1903 rifle*.

In 2005, the detachment formed an Honor Guard detail. The detail is responsible for rendering honors to fallen Marines foremost, and and other branches of the military if no other honor guard can be provided. The Honor Guard does this by:

  • Providing a memorial service for the deceased at the funeral home.
  • Rendering honors with rifles, including a volley of three rounds fired and taps played.
  • Folding and presentation of the Flag of the United States of America to the next of kin when a detail from the veteran's branch of service is not available to do so.

The Howlin Mad Detachment Honor Guard provides these services, at no charge, upon request by the veteran's family.

It is our way of saying, "thank you"
to our fallen comrades.

*The detachment is currently using M1 rifles, upgraded recently from the Springfield 1903.
